Configure Cluster Aware Updating (CAU)

 

Cluster-Aware Updating (CAU), a feature for failover clusters that was introduced in Windows Server 2012. CAU automates the software updating process on clustered servers (nodes) while maintaining availability.

1.      From the Domain Controller, Launch Active Directory Users and Computers.

2.      Select View ->Advanced Features.

3.      Now Select the HpV Hosts OU, right click it and select properties ->Select the security tab.

4.      Click Add -> Click Object Types -> Only select Computers -> Click Advanced then Find Now.

5.      Select BOTH the Hyper-V host computer account and the Hyper-V cluster computer account.

6.      Give both of the computer accounts Full Control

7.      Click OK and close Active Directory Users and Computers.

8.      On the HyperV host take Failover cluster manager -> select the failover cluster name -> right click it and select More Actions > Cluster-Aware Updating

9.      Select Configure Cluster Self-Updating Mode Options

10.  Click Next

11.  Tick Add the CAU clustered, leave the tick box UNTICKED and click next.

12.  Change the schedule to your requirement.

13.  Click Next

14.  On Advanced Options ->Tick Require All Nodes Online.

15.  Click Next

16.  On Additional Options ->Tick Give me recommended updates -> Click Next then Apply.

17.  Let the role configuration finish.
